Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate vision and hearing loss and knowing whether the effect of those will be on the overall quality of life in the elderly people. As a result, it would like to provide a basis for eye health policy and vision & hearing rehabilitation program for the elderly people.

Methods: The participants of this study consist of 50 elderly people who are 65 years old and over(Male:19, Female:31). Vision and hearing function were measured by distance vision acuity, refraction error diopter, and pure tone audiometry. Quality of life was measured by WHOQOL-BREF (World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF), SGDS (Short form of Geriatric Depression Scale), MMSE-K (Korean version of Mini-Mental State Examination).

Results: Depending on the distance vision was declining, The psychological health and overall quality of life had decreased significantly(p £¼.05). In mild hyperopia and myopia eyes compared to normal eyes, WHOQOL-BREF and SGDS showed negative results. but There was no statistically significant difference(p > .05). As hearing loss increases, WHOQOL-BREF, SGDS, and MMSE-K showed negative results, but there was no statistically significant difference(p > .05). Distance vision showed a low correlation with coefficient .36(p < .05) and .38(p < .01) in physical health and
overall quality of life. Hearing showed a low correlation with coefficient -.30(p < .05) in cognitive function.

Conclusions: Vision and hearing loss in the Elderly have negative effects on quality of life, depression, and cognitive function.
